Other sit-ins around the world and through history

Starting this topic to discuss and share other sit-ins, modern and historical. There are many ways to do a sit-in - we can learn a lot from what others have done and are doing.

The Greensboro sit-ins are the most famous in modern North American history - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greensboro_sit-ins

The Greensboro sit-ins were a series of nonviolent protests in Greensboro, North Carolina in 1960[1] which led to the Woolworth department store chain reversing its policy of racial segregation in the Southern United States.[2]

While not the first sit-ins of the African-American Civil Rights Movement, the Greensboro sit-ins were an instrumental action, leading to increased national sentiment at a crucial period in US history.[3] The primary event took place at the Greensboro, North Carolina Woolworth store, now the International Civil Rights Center and Museum.

The tree-sitters' camp in Berkeley, California protesting the planned removal of coastal live oaks as of 2008-07-08. The protesters were in the trees from 2006-12-02 to 2008-09-09, making it the longest running urban tree-sit in history. :) We have a way to go before breaking a record, however haven't found the "ground sitting" records yet.
